Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse and Addiction
Writer, Developer
2022-2023
I worked closely with Hello Cool World and the great team at the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction (CCSA) to create an interactive multimedia experience that builds empathy and combats stigma around youth who use substances. CCSA had already developed a simulation-style scenario with a working group of people who had lived experience. Using this as the skeleton, we fleshed out a branching ‘pick-a-path’ story where you follow different characters and are put in their shoes to make choices, hopefully gaining knowledge and understanding along the way. The site also incorporated real life interviews with people affected by the drug poisoning crisis in Canada, whose heartfelt stories help broaden the appeal beyond youth.
I helped write the proposal establishing budget, timeline and more to secure the contract. I co-wrote the script, created the storyboard, and collaborated closely with the team to bring the concept to life. I used Storyline 360 to build the fully responsive site, incorporating animation, videos, music, narration, closed captions, and more – in both English and French versions.
