Hello Cool World & Me

Position

Director of Online Content & Strategy

Timeframe

2005 - ongoing

In the fall of 2004, I attended a benefit screening of the documentary film The Take about the worker-led cooperatives that emerged in the aftermath of Argentina’s economic collapse. Filmmakers Naomi Klein and Avi Lewis introduced and paid homage to Hello Cool World (a.k.a. Good Company Communications Inc.), the grassroots marketers behind the film, saying they truly were a “good company” that cared about the cause.

Operating with the agenda, “It’s good to be cool and cool to be good,” I decided Hello Cool World was a company I wanted to work with.

I immediately solicited a writing internship and a year later, I was acting as the project manager for viral marketing and outreach campaigns. My responsibilities continued to build and I took on more senior roles, leading bigger projects with greater autonomy. I had a passion for technology, a nerd crush on data, and a drive to create compelling content and usable tools.

I started with the creative and digital agency four years after it was founded and have been able to play a significant role in its growth and development. I’ve worked closely with the company founder and Creative Director, Katherine Dodds, to help expand into new areas, such as becoming an approved film distributor (including for The Corporation and The New Corporation), an innovator in health engagement campaigns, and an advocate for harm reduction.

And I’m happy to say it’s still a “good company” I enjoy collaborating with.
